For crying out loud, wake up, people! Look what you missed! - Jello Biafra

Stevenson's 2001 US Tour Diary (page 3)

FRI 9/14 & SAT 9/15: NEW YORK, NY -
Heading into Brooklyn and we can see the smoke billowing up from lower Manhattan. We pull into Brooklyn and after some aimless driving, hook up with the Fleshies. After some more aimless driving, we make it to their buddy Ed Gein. In the morning, Jon Fleshie talks to the Parkside, where we were originally supposed to play, and we decide to do a free show there. We head into Manhattan. A mix of emotions, as I immediately recognize many of the lower east side landmarks from a prior visit. (Parked right next to the Orensanz Foundation where I saw Current 93 in '96)
Our Pals in Philly
The air is thick with the rubble from the disaster. Spend the afternoon in bars talking to the bartenders and locals about the madness and wandering about the lower east side. Run into some crusties there to see MDC, which was cancelled (everything is canceled), and invite them to the show. Decent show. Afterwards, Skot B pulls some jumanji shit and somehow avoids an unavoidable car accident when some jackamo makes a left turn right in front of us. Back to Ed Gein's where we are subjected to endless bad metal (you know its funny for about 5 minutes.) The next day, as we're on our way out of town, Ed Gein calls accusing us of stealing his bike and corrupting his sister. Mostly untrue. (do you like ice cream?)
SUN 9/16: PROVIDENCE, RI - The Hive
Show in Boston cancelled. Too bad, as we were planning on hooking up with our pal Jeni B. Fleshies get us on a gig with them at the hive in Providence. Bad directions. We are lost forever, until by some jumanji shit, we end up behind some kids on the way to the show. The venue is a gilman type place. Mostly thrash bands on the bill, but this cool girl group Jane Speed play. Sort of an east cost Subtonix. Its Sunday, which means NO LIQUOR. Luckily a friend of Jon's kicks down a few shots of Rum. Another fun show and our last on tour with the fleshies. After a long, tearful goodbye, we're off.
J Limbs Outside Mr. Roboto's Wilkensberg, PA
MON 9/17: PITTSBURGH - Mr Roboto Project
Spend the night before in the middle of fucking nowhere. (Good film on the tele: "The Loved One" 1965) The next day we kick it with the Miller kin and some of Jason's old school peeps from back in the day. Another Gilman type venue and another fun show. Afterwards, I spend 4 hours on the cell phone thinking we have 1000 minutes a night. Turns out its per month. (Fucking "Eye of the Tiger" still lingering in our heads from Philly.)
(somewhere around here, everything on the dash of the van stops working.)
Klosoff's Drawing of Dean Los Rabbis from Memory***

TUE 9/18: OBERLIN OH
Kicked it in Geneva OH with Jason's folks. His mom makes some killer grub and its off to Oberlin College, where Dean from Los Rabbi's has set us up at a house party. I go with dean to the bar to get a coupla cases of PBR (he's only 18!) and we have a kick-ass party, yo! (jackalope jackalope jackalope jackalope jackalope) Kathleen from SF, our self-proclaimed biggest fan, proves the point by showing up.

The Limbs in Detroit Rock City.
WED 9/19 DETROIT -- St. Andrews
Ok, this is an awesome venue. We are playing with AFI, which I have never heard, but are apparently huge, as the show has sold 600 presale tickets. We get to Detroit to discover that the show has been cancelled! The booker, who didn't tell us beforehand, at least gives us gas $, which we blow and more at the casino in Greektown. Elena has flown from Chicago to see us. Luckily we find her and give her a lift back to Chi town.
