Stevenson's 2002
European Tour Recap
As always, thanks to all the friends, fans, et.
al. who helped us on our way. (In retrospect, it probably wasn't a good idea to have a booker who only knows Euro crusty punks who hate keyboards book our tour.
Still, we made the best of it.)
At any rate, below is a breakdown of what went down across the pond.

9/19 The
Tower Bar - Bremen, Germany: First show. Stiff
crowd. A lot of people cleared out when hopeless got naked
and starting playing twister with himself. Still, some good
reactions.
9/20 Kopernikusstr. - Hannover Germany:
My power strip blew up and these crazy Germans took it apart
with a pocket knife and fixed it! That was the highlight
of the show!
9/21 Robodock Festival - Amsterdam,
Holland: This was a big burning-manish thing.
We played early and a lot of people missed us as the line
to get in was a mile long. + Hopeless broke several mics
in rapid secession and the sound guy cut us off. Later we
settled up with him and made peace. Then there was fire,
fire, fire! |

The
Kopi - Berlin, Germany
|
|
9/22 No Pasaran - Hamburg, Germany:
The first really good show of tour. People danced,
people screamed, etc.
9/23 Flora - Hamburg, Germany:
One of the worst, uninspiring shows of tour. At least
a few people from the night before came to see us. Still,
it sucked.

9/24 The Kopi - Berlin,
Germany: One of the best shows on tour. An amazing
10 story squat just on the east side of the Berlin wall.
The whole place was falling apart and caving in. We played
very late it the basement, and it was just like a limbs
show back home: crammed with drunk dancing freaks. We even
saw some familiar faces from SF. Berlin rules!
9/25 Zenit - Stendal, Germany:
Tiny town outside Berlin. We played this weird
youth center. There were like 30 guys and 2 girls there.
Weird. Everyone was very drunk and Klosoff could hardly
play, so we left the stage and an impromptu jam session
broke out. The most comical show of tour.

Lazy,
Les (from Left for Dead) and Miller in Stendal, Germany
|
| 9/26 Zoro Club - Leipzig, Germany
: Huge festival. Great food! Bands from literally
all over the world. There were even some noise bands, which
was a welcome relief from the endless barrage of crust punk
we had been exposed to up to that point. We went on extremely
late, but it was still a good set.
9/27 Zwischenfall (Pagan Love
Songs) - Bochum, Germany: : Only the coolest
Deathrock club in Germany, if not Europe. Was looking
forward to this show and was not let down. Great club,
great people, great show. Got to meet a lot of people
I had been talking to over the Internet for the last three
years and many of them drove insane distances to make
it. Afterwards, they played great music all night! Including
Heart of Snow and the Vanishing!
|
9/28 Lintfabriek
-- Knotich, Belgium: The first of many hour long
sound checks in Europe. Stiff crowd. Good music afterwards
and was happy to hear Heart of Snow again. I got sick as
a dog after this show and lost my voice.
9/29 OCCII - Amsterdam, Holland:
Ok, we sound-checked for literally an hour and a half and
it sounded like total shit onstage and in the audience.
Plus I am so g/d allergic to this venue. Booooo! Also, afterward, classic: Jason is
upset he can not find anywhere to buy smokes and the booker scolds us: "You Americans! All you do
is buy, buy, buy, sell, sell, sell!"
10/1 The Pits - Kortrijk, Belgium:
Tiny, tiny place in a tiny town. Great show. Ramses, the
booker, made us some beer stew, with real meat!!! He also
got us shitfaced drunk on really really strong Belgium beer.
+ the people at the club played awesome music like Teenage
Jesus and the Jerks and Arab on Radar and stuff. Cool show! |
10/2 La Zone -
Liege, Belgium: Really cool town! Great show!
They wouldn't let us off the stage and I had to turn everything
back on twice before they would finally let us off.
10/3 SCSI Cell - The Hague,
Holland: The best show in Holland by far.
Played in a tiny packed room and it was another typical
chaotic drunkein limbs show just like home.

Crazy
Kids in Imperia, Italy

10/5 JH Fasanenhof - Stuttgard,
Germany: Mike s/.omehow split his head open
at this show. Jason and Scott defeated four teams of Germans
at Foosball (or Kicker as its called there). Oh, and we
played also.
10/6 KTS - Freiburg, Germany:
Most of the punks were a little freaked out
and they didn't like being called "assholes,"
by hopeless, apparently. Luckily some deathrock/goth kids
showed up out of nowhere, as they did several times on
tour, and were into it.
10/7 Kulturkollektiv Hirscheneck
- Basel, Switzerland: Cool restaurant / club.
The sound guy knew exactly what he was doing! The crowd
was cool. Good show. Afterwards we kicked it on the bank
of the Rhine. Very cool. The next day we drove through
the Swiss Alps. Very nice indeed!
