THE LIMBS ARE KAPUT! October 31, 2005 (HALLOWEEN) Dear Fiends, The Limbs are officially hanging it up. As we have not played live for a year, this should come as little surprise. We have been planning to say farewell since the end of our last European tour, last October. We had planned on doing a final show in San Francisco this Fall, but as time has gone by, we realized it would be really difficult to get enough practice in and get the band back in shape in order to not completely suck. Therefore we figured it would be best to quit while we were ahead after our best tour ever and a great final show in Berlin. So, the Limbs played their last show ever, Oct 23, 2004 in Berlin, Germany. We have decided to disband, not because of the obligatory "musical differences", but because we feel that the Limbs have run their course and it is time to move on, rather than become a second rate version of ourselves. The limbs were an incredibly intense and draining experience and we are surprised and happy that we were able to keep it going for as long as we did. We are very pleased to be ending things on a positive note after a great last tour and our weirdest record ever. We are eternally grateful to all our fans, friends, family, bands, labels, clubs, bookers, bartenders, et al, who helped us on our way. This band has somewhat restored our faith in humanity and in music. We have made many great friends and surprisingly few enemies along the way. Ok, enough with the schmaltz. Let me tell you where we go from here. First off, we have no plans to ever do a reunion show. We could equivocally state for the record that we will never do one, but rather than risk being complete hypocrites, like so many bands before us, we will simply state that we don't see it happening, although an all expenses paid tour of Japan would be pretty tempting… This is not the last you will hear of the limbs, however, as we have a couple of releases planned for next year. First off is a compilation of our 7"s, demos, compilation tracks and other rarities. We tried to keep something special and otherwise unavailable on all of our 7"s, so this will be A material and not a collection of random crap. The next and most likely last release will be a DVD of live and documentary footage spanning our entire career. The hard part will be narrowing this down to 1 DVD. We have a lot of amazing footage, especially from the Bay Area. Footage from the rest of North America and Europe is a bit scarcer. If you have any footage from our US or European tours or anything amazing from the SF bay area, please contact us! What now? All the limbs are working on new music and non-music projects. None of these are pirate-related! Loto Ball (nee Hopeless) is playing his trumpet for a marching band called Mucca Pazza They appreciate his dancing and are waiting for him to get better at trumpet playing. He practices his trumpet at least three times a week in his new arts space/gallery going by the name of ReversibleEye The current show has a bunch of his drawings up including the very large drawing used for the cover of the last LIMBS release. You can view the drawings at ReversibleEye. Stevenson continues to work with Skot B and the other fine musicians in Black Ice. Black Ice's debut full-length Terrible Birds, was released by Hungry Eye Records to critical acclaim earlier this year. They recently completed a successful east coast tour and are working on new material for their follow-up. Stevenson also has many side- projects in the works. He recently purchased a beautiful Yamaha U1 piano. Skot B continues to play in Black Ice as well. He also continues to work on his solo project, Decanter, which you may have heard on the excellent Witches of the West comp. He has also been recording/mixing some amazing bands, including the Holy Kiss, 16s and Death of a Party. Jason "Jumanji" Miller is working on a "Thrash metal, load, fast, evil, sick and twisted" project with Mike Klösoff. In his spare time, Jason also enjoys McDonalds. Mike Klösoff continues to pound the skins for the "frantic hardcore punk" outfit the Scurvy Dogs (at least until Feb 2006). The Dogs just compelled a successful tour of Old Europe. Mike is also working on the aforementioned "thrash metal project" with Jumanji Miller. The Phantom Limbs website will continue to provide updates on the various projects of the limbs members. We will also keep our mail- order going, although some items may become unavailable. If we know where to get them, we will tell you. If we get bored, we might also add some old pics and flyers, etc. Most of our projects have links on our links page. Again, the limbs thank you for your continued support and hope that you will continue to enjoy our other artistic endeavors. So long and thanks for all the beer, The Phantom Limbs (1999 – 2005) |
